ORANGES



It is believed that the Orange trees are the most cultivated fruit trees in the world. They are widely grown in tropical and sub-tropical climate for their sweet fruit. The sweet Orange cultivated in Nigeria is seasonal and is usually ready for harvest in late July.


Being a citrus fruit, the Orange is acidic. It can be eaten fresh or processed into juices, jams or added to various dishes.
Sweet orange oil can be made from pressing the peel. This oil is used for flavoring food and drinks.

In Nigeria Orange leaves in combination with other local leaves are boiled and the water used as fever reducers. Orange leaves are also boiled as tea.
